barcelona || beach biking in barcelonata
One of my fondest memories of Barcelona was the day Nash and I biked at Barceloneta Beach with two of our very close friends, Joana and JR. I remember that day clearly, we all wanted to check out the beach but we were worried if our feet could still carry us all the way to the very end of the stretch since we were still very tired from all the walking we’ve done the previous days.
We didn’t plan on it, but while we were walking towards the area, we happened to see a bike shop offering bicycles for rent. All of us agreed that it was a great idea to cycle our way to the beach. My best friend, Joana, and I were obviously not wearing the right outfits—we both were wearing dresses and coats—but we did not complain! One thing I learned from travelling is that you always have to be game to do things a certain moment presents even if you aren’t prepared for it. You’ll never know, those moments could be the most precious ones you’ll ever have!
A little history—located in the fishing district called La Barceloneta, Barceloneta beach is actually one of Barcelona’s oldest and most famous beaches. It’s where the people of the city love to come to eat seafood dishes. The waterfront is home to countless tapas bars and restaurants. In the summer, it gets crowded but you can enjoy more activities like wind and kite surfing. The easiest way to get to the beach is to get off the Barceloneta stop in the metro or you can also walk about 20 minutes from the end of La Rambla.
We visited in March so it was still quite cold, and a bit windy too that day. We definitely had a relaxing afternoon, enjoying the Spanish sun and the cool breeze by the beach while people-watching. It was I think the randomness that we biked by CHANCE and the fact that we shared the experience with GOOD FRIENDS that the experience became so memorable for me and Nash.
How about you, what sort of activities have you done by chance? Do you also think it was one of the most memorable experiences in your life? Share it with us!
